Blepharoplasty, Eyelid Lifts. Seeing is Believing – Fairfax, Northern Virginia
An eyelid lift can serve two purposes for a patient. It can be both a functional procedure or a cosmetic procedure. When excessive eyelid skin is present it may hang over the eyelashes and can obstruct the peripheral vision in some people. The side and upper visual fields can be affected and it may interfere with normal daily activities like driving a car, playing sports or reading. In these types of circumstances an upper blepharoplasty is best suited to improve peripheral vision.
Other patients may choose to have an eyelid lift as a result of normal aging or a desire to change the shape of their eyes or improve the visual signs of bags under their eyes. This is known as a lower blepharoplasty or lower eyelid lift. Lower eyelid lifts are most always performed for cosmetic reasons and to improve the appearance of someone’s eyes, restoring them to a more youthful look.
Some people of Asian descent have undergone this procedure to remove the appearance of a single eyelid. This is termed an Asian blepharoplasty or double eyelid surgery. In Taiwan and other parts of East Asia, Asian blepharoplasty’s have been reported to be the most common of all cosmetic surgery procedures
