This case illustrates an uncommon problem after breast augmentation but the most common problem we see. This is "bottoming out" or more precisely inframammary fold descent. I performed a breast augmentation on this young lady in April 2017 (case #578). You can see that she developed inframammary fold descent. This is when the fold drops a centimeter or more causing the nipples to elevate. We really aren't sure why this occurs in some patients. And, despite different methods to prevent it it continues to occur at the same rate. The correction is easy as a capsule develops around the implants. This is sutured to itself to close of the space below the implant. This is a strong repair and typically the inframammary fold descent does not reoccur.
