Mommy Makeover: It’s All About The Face

First, the basics.  The sun is your enemy; the use of a sunscreen greater than 15 is required everyday!  To combat sun damage, I am a big proponent of tretinoin (Retin-A®).  Tretinoin does many things: increases cell turnover (helps with acne), suppresses melanocytes (evens skin discoloration), increases elastin (reduces wrinkles), thickens skin (skin thins as we age).  Although it will initially cause skin redness and flaking, this will resolve in just a few weeks.  Second, a good skin care line, such as Obagi® adds cosmeceuticals that are beneficial.

Next, Botox Cosmetic® is essential to address forehead, glabellar (between the eyes), and periorbital (skin around the eyes) wrinkles.  It is essential that you see as a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for this.  Although other physicians inject Botox, I don’t believe most truly have an appreciation for anatomy or the artistry needed for Botox.

Finally, with only a modest amount of money dermal fillers can do wonders.  These fillers such as Restylane®, Perlane®, Juvederm® and Radiesse® can soften folds and deeper wrinkles.  The social downtime for fillers is only a few hours but the results can be astounding.
