    This lovely young lady came to see me for a breast lift. The surgery was uneventful but unfortunately she had a significant problem post operatively with hypertrophic scarring. We did multiple steroid injections but eventually she had to undergo scar revision. Again, despite doing everything to prevent bad scarring she again develped hypertrophic scars. The treatment of these scars with steroids can cause the tissues to weaken which led to slight widening of the left areola. Hypertrophic scarring is more common in certain ethnic groups. We don't know why it occurs as it is unpredictable. I think her result is a significant improvement over her preoperative appearance. I think it would have been outstanding had not the hypertrophic scarring occurred.
