Facelift

A facelift is a popular surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck. Many patients in their 50Õs are looking for a second lease on life and want to look as youthful as they feel. These techniques make that possible.

There are two primary types of facelift procedures, which are sometimes combined for the best results. A specialty of Dr. Hess, these delicate procedures combine a sense of artistry with a deep understanding of facial anatomy.

Mid-Facelift

A mid-face lift is focused on the midsection of the face below the eye, the cheeks, the lower lids and folds around the nose. The results are some of the most striking of any facial surgery, delivering a complete rejuvenation of the face and a younger, more vibrant appearance without looking overdone.

Full Facelift

A full facelift is one of the most involved facial surgeries, addressing jowling and redefining the angle of the jaw, neck and cheeks. As we age, the face naturally loses some of its underlying structure, and gravity naturally pulls the skin downward.

A specialty of this practice, these delicate procedures combine a sense of artistry with a deep understanding of facial anatomy. Taking advantage of deep experience from his work in facial reconstruction, Dr. Hess employs advanced techniques and specialized experience for these procedures.

How is face lift surgery performed?

Face lift surgery techniques continually develop and advance with time, and have become what can be a rather advanced series of processes, including the potential for better sculpting of the tissue beneath the face. The full face lift procedure requires an incision from ear to ear just above the hairline.

A face lift is an excellent way to reduce the signs of aging on the face and neck, however, face lift surgery does have some limitations. Having a realistic approach and an honest consultation with Dr. Hess will ensure that your results match your expectation.

A facelift can certainly help you look your best, but it will not last forever. General considerations like facial structure and bone shape may limit the amount of sculpting Dr. Hess can safely perform.

How long does it take to recover from a face lift?

Recovery times will vary by person, taking as little as ten days or up to a month. Keeping the head elevated is generally advised as well as occasional use of cold packs in order to keep the swelling down. Dr. Hess will prescribe a pain medication to alleviate any pain or discomfort.

Most of the swelling should go down after 24 to 48 hours, though some areas of the face may stay swollen and bruising may occur for a couple weeks. Numbness may be experienced, although for most people sensation typically returns after a few months.
